how to pin a Firefox desktop shortcut to the taskbar in win 8.1

more options

To create a shortcut to a specific url is really easy. However, I have not found a way to pin this shortcut to the taskbar. For example, IE lets you drag the url to either the desktop OR taskbar directly. I have not found a way to get this done with Firefox. Right-clicking on the desktop shortcut does not show the "pin to taskbar" option. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

This is on Windows 7:

When I drag from the padlock/globe in Firefox's address bar to the Windows Taskbar, it gets added to the right-click menu for my pinned Firefox program icon. I guess that makes sense.

If I drag from the padlock/globe in Firefox's address bar to the desktop first, and create shortcut there, then when I drag it to the Windows Taskbar, it still gets added to the right-click menu for my pinned Firefox program icon. Hmm...

If I open the Windows Favorites folder and drag from there, same thing.

I unpinned Firefox from the Taskbar and tried dragging the padlock/globe from the address bar, and it pinned Firefox to the Taskbar in a strange, dysfunctional way.

I think this might work more like IE if Firefox is not set as the default browser, but it was not convenient for me to test that.

Thanks, jscher2000, for your quick response. In win 8.1 I cannot drag from the padlock/globe to the taskbar. What happens is that I can drag to the desktop without problems. As soon as I continue dragging to the taskbar I get the red circle with diagonal line through it. I also tried it by unpinning Firefox from the taskbar - same result, i.e. no joy. The workaround right now is to us IE for this particular URL but - while that works - that seems like the wrong answer...

I'm sorry, why do you need to use IE for the URL? Is it a page that does not work well in Firefox?

Sorry, I did not mean to confuse the issue: Since I cannot get Firefox to work in this case I resorted to using IE. Of course I would much prefer for Firefox to be able to do this (i.e. dragging the URL from the padlock/globe to the taskbar). Since I have not been able to accomplish this with Firefox plan B is to use IE for this particular purpose.
