I've seen how to enable flashplayer on the foxfire help pages, but I'm stumped at the first step. How do I get to the Firefox Start Page?I click on the FF icon, and then what?Or do I start another way?If I sign into my internet wifi provider and google FF start page, that doesn't help.Getting very frustrated

Adobe released an update last week from version18.0.0.203 to 18.0.0.209. You can get that on this page:

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

In the first table, look for the row for "plugin-based browsers" and you can use either the EXE or the MSI installer.

To ensure the installer can remove the old version, please close any tab using Flash, or exit out of Firefox while doing the update.

Normally after the update Firefox will go back to allowing any site to use Flash without your having to approve individual sites. To modify that setting yourself:

Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for "Shockwave Flash" and you can choose between:

  • "Always Activate" = any site can use Flash without further permission
  • "Ask to Activate" = if you haven't already approved a site to use Flash, Firefox will wait for approval before allowing the site to use it
  • "Never Activate" = completely turn off Flash and hide the plugin from web sites

If you are not accustomed to using the "Ask to Activate" feature for a plugin, here's what to expect:

When you visit a site that wants to use Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

If you see a good reason to use Flash, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click the Lego-like icon in the address bar to allow Flash. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.

But some pages use Flash only for tracking or playing ads, so if you don't see an immediate need for Flash, feel free to ignore the notification! It will just sit there in case you want it later.
