Tabs will not close in version 30.0a1 when I click on the "x" on the tab.
I can not click on the "x" on the right corner of the tab to close them. They stay open and the icon just spins. This means I can't use the restore tabs from previous session as I don't want them again. Would love to have the tabs function as they did before the upgrade. Thanks!!

If you are unable to make a fix, there are add-ons that can close tabs and windows using mouse or the keyboard.
Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Since this is incorrect, please ignore it: I think Firefox 31 removed the internal setting for this (browser.tab.closeButtons). Now, to close an individual background tab, you'll need to right-click > Close Tab instead. Should be more reliable than hitting the tiny x, but it is a second click.
Modified
What has changed is that you can only have the close X on each tab and can no longer change this. If the close X isn't working then a likely cause is a problem with an extension or theme.
Thanks for you help. I went to the Add-on page and loaded the Classic Theme Restore for tabs - it's fixed.
