NEW BEHAVIOUR - as of this morning, when i click *reply* in my webmail, the cursor autolocates to the address bar instead of being where i need it - in the message! i know this is different because it keeps catching me out - i.e. i am used to just typing straight away, and now find i am unable to do that. the "options" in ff control panel are pretty limited and there is nothing about this in there. - i have had a look online but i am not going to spend all day over this. i work in tech support and get enough of this in my job - i.e. fixing other people's problems; i am not one of those people who love getting to stuck into the same thing when i am at home - i just want it to WORK. i have used ff as my first-choice browser for years now, but will switch to chrome unless someone can explain to me what has changed and how i can fix it - it's incredibly annoying :((

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to Troubleshoot the issue and to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

thanks, but i was hoping for an actual answer, not something copied and pasted from a template. the problem i am having cannot be new to me; it must already be known. i am not about to spend all morning fiddling around to try and fix it - would rather abandon ff and use a browser that's not going to mess me around.

Maybe it is at least partly down to a change in your webmail or something else that changed.

  • Was this noticed the first time you used Firefox for Webmail after it upgraded to Firefox 29 with the new User Interface ?
  • What is the webmail service that you use ?
  • Have you asked on their support site ?
  • You mention Google Chrome presumably the webmail behaves differently in Google Chrome ? What happens in Chrome ?
  • Does clicking Reply involve opening a new Browser tab or a new browser Window, or does this stay within the same already open tab  ?
  • Have you tried in Firefox's safe mode yet ? What happens then ?
  • At work do you ever feel frustrated when asked questions and you feel vital information may be missing ;-)
    • N.B. Here we are nearly all fellow Firefox users; volunteering our own time to help others.
