Mozilla.org changes its home page now and then. For now, you could always use about:blank.

I hide that part of the about:home page with this userContent.css code. The down side is that it also hides the Firefox logo, too.

@-moz-document url(about:home) {
#brandLogo { display:none !important; }
}

If you prefer not to see snippets on the about:home page then you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page.

Delete the "storage\moz-safe-about+home" folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default set.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Some easier instructions:

  • Set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page
  • Open about:home page in a tab
  • Open Web Console in this tab (Firefox menu button > Developer)
  • Run this command via the command prompt: gSnippetsMap.clear()
  • Close the tab with the about:home page
  • Close and restart Firefox

thank you so much! I would rather have a blank page until they provide a home page without the annoying stars. thanks again.

Did you try my above posted steps to disable loading new snippets and remove already downloaded snippets?

Changing my browser. Firefox has just shown how crass it has become by not creating a one-click way to remove what it should realise is a distracting annoyance! Thanks anyway!

You can easily set another page as the home page by opening the page in a tab and dragging the tab on the Home button at the right-end of the Navigation Toolbar.
