For years I have used Firefox-suddlenly it will no longer open (can access sites with another browser). After spending hours reading forums, self-helps, etc I tried looking at the profile and it had a parental.lock shown on it. I am the administrator of the computer so I know it is not computer related. I tried deleting the lock (which I appeared to be successful at, rebooting the computer but still could not access Firefox.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and am getting a message to close the previous version of Firefox. The update will not launch.

Can someone PLEASE, PLEASE help me?

You run the update, you'll need to stop the firefox.exe process, via the Task Manager.

Do you have any idea where the parental lock came from?
You are running Windows Vista. Correct?

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thank you very much CompterWhiz. It does appear my problem was a result of malware. After running three of the antivirus programs you suggested, I had luck with MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware. '''' Thanks again.''''
