How do i completely close firefox

more options

I recently updated my Firefox and then when I closed it, it keeps saying Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. I don't want to restart my computer, how do i do this without restarting my computer?

Something is causing Firefox to hang during shutdown. That is worth exploring in more detail -- see Firefox hangs or is not responding -- but to answer your immediate question, you can use the Windows Task Manager to shut down a hung process.

Start the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc

Check the Applications tab for any/all instances of Firefox. If found, select and click End Task. Since you have no visible Firefox windows, you probably won't find Firefox here. (If Firefox has a task bar button but the window cannot be seen, that is a different issue.)

Check the Processes tab for any/all instances of firefox.exe and click End Process.

Exit the Task Manager and start up Firefox again.
