I am currently connected to a university residence network that requires manual proxy settings. I have been increasingly frustrated in these past few months. First Chrome stopped working at all, the university network giving the message that my proxy settings are not configured correctly (they are). I started using Firefox, and it was fine until all of a sudden it stopped being able to load Facebook and Google, including searching through the Google search bar. Seeing as these are my most frequently used sited, I turned to downloading Opera as a solution, and have been using it ever since.

I have tried all of the suggestions in this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can?esab=a&as=aaq and nothing worked.

I am writing this from Opera currently, but I have included troubleshooting info. for Firefox below.

So, you are only having this problem if you use a proxy and not if you use a direct connection?

Did you check the firewall settings to make sure that it isn't blocking that connection.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
