I have Firefox 13.0 in Windows 7 64-bit. The Library has started to hang after I do one action when organizing bookmarks, such as deleting or moving one or more bookmarks into a folder, or changing a folder's position in the Library, or moving it into another folder. It will hang for perhaps 30-60 seconds before I can do another such action.

While my library is probably rather large, I doubt that memory is the problem, as I'm using a desktop with 8gb of RAM.

I tried the Vacuum Places add-on, but it did not help. I also tried Places Maintenance, which indicated it reindexed the database, found the database is coherent, and could not vacuum the database, and did not solve the problem.

I would appreciate any suggestions for fixing this.

Try delete Places.sqlite file from your Profile folder and check it again. When delete the places.sqlite file a new empty file will be created automatically but this will delete your browsing history as well.

thank you

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have mentioned that I had seen that suggestion posted here, already tried it, and it does not work.

I'm also having problems with Xmarks hanging when I try to sync bookmarks. A post on the Xmarks forum indicated that there have been problems with that in every Firefox version since 3.0

This will teach me not to update Firefox, if new updates will screw up important functions.

Did you also remove all other places files like the places.sqlite-journal file?

You can try to reset Firefox.

Reset creates a new profile and tries to import some settings from the old profile leaving the old profile intact.

Thanks, cor-el. I've never tried the reset option. I don't know, but it seems like a bit of a "nuclear option," and if nothing else works, I'll give it a shot.
