I've used Slack every day for the past decade, and Firefox has been my primary browser for some time now. I've never had an issue with the two, but now, Firefox is reliably crashing every time I attempt to open Slack.

I've tried clearing my cache both broadly and specific to Slack, with neither producing results. Even tried deleting all cookies on Firefox, which was a bit of a pain, and it was no help.

I did read up on some people encountering a similar issue that could be fixed by deleting the Slack entry in "about:serviceworkers," but this did not help here.

The only extension I'm running is uBlock Origin, which I've been running for probably as long as I've been using Firefox, and that has never presented an issue before either.

Would appreciate any help or advice on the matter.

Hi,

Your crash reports would really help. Could you please give us a couple of IDs?

Just go to about:crashes, submit recent unsubmitted reports (if you haven't already), reload the page, then copy the Report IDs for submitted crash reports (they start with bp-) and post them here.

Thanks for the response. Here are a few recent Report IDs for submitted crash reports stemming from this issue, taken at a few different times:

Hi again,

Thank you for the IDs. Looks like you're facing bug 1986922, which our team is actively working on. I'll keep you updated about the fix deployment.

I appreciate that context. I'll look forward to updates.

Hi,

The issue is currently fixed in Firefox 145, which is in Nightly. This version's release is scheduled for November 11, but I'll let you know in case the fix is deployed in one of the earlier versions.

As said in the bug, you can directly block magicdsfilterQuest3.dll to prevent crashes until the fix lands. See Identify problems caused by third-party modules in Firefox for Windows.

So I'm not actually seeing that element in my "about:third-party" listing.

There are the only elements present there, for me, all of which seem to be associated with NVIDIA:

nvwgf2umx.dll nvgpucomp64.dll nvldumdx.dll NvMemMapStoragex.dll

Hmm that's strange. Anyway, the fix is coming to Firefox 143, so let's wait for it and see if it resolves the issue. And if not, we'll look for another cause :)
