Not all tab groups will fully collapse, as before

Since yesterday, some of my tab groups don't fully collapse when the group tab is clicked. Instead, one tab in the group remains fully expanded, followed by a number indicating how many other tabs are in the group. A screen shot is attached.

Since I enabled tab groups some weeks ago, tab groups have behaved as expected. When the group header is clicked, the tabs in the group spread out to be visible and clickable. When the header is clicked again, all tabs in the group collapse entirely behind the header tab.

Most of my tab groups are still behaving this way. But new groups are now displaying one full tab plus the number, no matter how many other tabs or tab groups are already occupying the window.

Since the behavior is inconsistent, it doesn't seem to be a setting. Is there any fix?

I had no tab groups defined so decided to try it out. It seems that if you click a group label, it will collapse it all the way if you are not focused on one of its tabs.

If you click on a group label that has one of its tabs focused, then that tab keeps showing with a number beside it. If you then click on a tab that is not part of the group, then it completely collapses.

So, it would seem that if all groups are collapsed there should be just one showing with a number beside it, unless you collapsed them while viewing a tab that's not in any group.

I was only testing this out with 2 groups with several tabs in each.

Alright, I see. This seems to be a new behavior because it had not been happening with any of my tab groups until yesterday, and I did just receive a browser update. Thanks for figuring that out.

I'm not happy with this change. In browser windows with only tab groups, one of the groups now always remains partially "open" unless I create and select a tab outside the group. This creates a more cluttered and inconsistent look, contrary to the real estate-saving and organizing intention of groups, and I would like to be able to set it to always completely collapse when closed, as before.

But I'm relieved to know that, as long as I create and select something outside of the group, it will fully close.

Thanks again, MarkRH. I was baffled.
