I had a new windows installation done without backing up the firefox profile while foolishly resetting the firefox password too without using the recovery key and effectively losing my current data.

Is there anything that could be done to restore the data to my account or is that the end?

Unless you have a copy of you data in Firefox on another device, I am sorry but it will not be possible to recover your data.
