I have Firefox installed on my iPhone as well as on my MacBook. When I browse using Firefox on my iPhone and I'm in close range of my MacBook, I get a notification on my MacBook for the Firefox page visited on my iPhone, and if I click on the notification, the page is opened in Firefox on my MacBook. This makes sense to me. However, what I don't understand is, this same behavior occurs even when I open a web page in Safari on my iPhone - i.e. I get a notification from Firefox on the iPhone appearing on my MacBook. Why would this happen? These are two distinct apps, I didn't think they could share data.

The sharing between the Macbook and your phone is actually occurring through iCloud, not Firefox, which is why it works on Safari as well as Firefox.

Thanks Eve. I need to learn more about how iCloud works and in particular, how it syncs an app between the iPhone and MacBook. I thought it only did this for Apple apps, e.g. FaceTime, Messages, etc.

Safari can import password from Firefox even when a Master Password is set in FF (Safari will ask you for it). It would be great if Firefox can do the same with icloud/keychain! This will definitely helps people switching from Safari to Firefox!

I’m not understanding Eve’s response.

I want both Firefox and Safari (on both my iPhone and on my MacBook Air) to see the total unified history of sites I’ve visited. How do I do this? How do I use iCloud to accomplish this?
