What's going on over at Video download helper site, postings don't show up?

more options

I'm a member at the video download helper forum http://forum.downloadhelper.net/ since more than a year. I made a posting today. It vanished from the forum after a while. (Or rather, it worked, but didn't show up in the forum, as I found out later.) I made another posting, and made a direct bookmark for that one. That bookmark link worked. It turns out that the forum page says latest posting on the website was 7th of July, this year. That's patently wrong. Then I made an answering post to my second post, to tell that the site says no postings, and that a direct link still works. Something may be wrong with the forum software? That posting was immediately placed under moderation. (The bug I have is that vdlh 499 does not work with youtube today, and it did yesterday. Firefox 14.01, Win XP Prof.)

I realize it may be a little bit early to ask here, but their behavior seems to me as an outsider to be a little bit strange. No answers, no reaction, and then suddenly I'm under moderation.

Do you guys know anything about the situation? Do you know those guys enough to contact them in any practical way?

thank you very much/Rolf

New version 4.9.10 of VDH has been released that corrects recent problems. Update to the new version.

Version 4.9.10 release information

After some changes in YouTube on September 14th, Video DownloadHelper was not able to download any video from this site, except the WEBM version while using the YouTube HTML5 mode. This is fixed in this addon version.

After some changes in YouTube on August 6th, a number of users reported that all downloads were failing. This was caused by a a Youtube-generated cookie. The workaround consisting of clearing the cookies before downloading was not very convenient. This addon version takes care of that issue.

Earlier this year, some other changes at YouTube caused the FLV videos downloaded through the 'network' method to have a fixed 1.7MB size and being unplayable. This is now taken care of.

Follow-up-

I just tested and can confirm that VDH 4.99 is not working on Youtube (saves 0 byte file). I have seen other posts in this forum regarding that. Have never had a problem with VDH in the past.

On the VDH add-on page, see the section "September 14th 2012 YouTube issue" - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/?src=ss

VDH has released a beta version that works; I have tested and downloaded just a few minutes ago. Follow instructions on the following page.

Please use this beta version that will soon be submitted to amo:

http://www.downloadhelper.net/install-beta.php?version=4.9.10b6

This will bring the addon as it was working a few days ago, plus a couple of other fixes also related to YouTube.

The DownloadHelper forums are indeed currently closed as it took us one hour a day to clean up spam, which we cannot afford anymore. We hope to find a solution there.

The above link posted by _mig indicates beta version 6, but actually installs beta version 3, DownloadHelper 4.9.10b3.

You are correct, this is a bug in the version declaration but it's really the xpi to be used. It will soon be 4.9.10 anyway.
