Firefox VPN not connecting to Canada

Denys beantwortet
Gary Owen

I'm using Windows 11 152.0.4 Firefox version I'm in Australia

I am using Firefox’s new built‑in VPN (not the standalone Mozilla VPN app). When I switch between USA, UK, or Germany, the browser successfully routes traffic through those regions even though the VPN icon remains grey. However, when I select Canada, Firefox appears to accept the region change but no websites load at all. The browser becomes effectively offline.

The following error appears in the console:

Code SearchSuggestionController found an unexpected string value: HTTP error 2

  1. dedupeAndReturnResults moz-src:///toolkit/components/search/SearchSuggestionController.sys.mjs:639

fetch moz-src:///toolkit/components/search/SearchSuggestionController.sys.mjs:36 Troubleshooting already attempted:

Disabled DNS-over-HTTPS

Cleared DNS and HTTP caches

Tested in Private Window

Tested in Troubleshoot Mode (Safe Mode)

Restarted Firefox

Switched between multiple regions

Confirmed that USA, UK, and Germany work normally

Only Canada fails consistently

None of these steps resolved the issue.

Expected behaviour: Canada region should function like the other regions and allow normal browsing.

Actual behaviour: Selecting Canada results in:

Blank pages

No network activity

SearchSuggestionController errors

Browser appears offline

Other regions continue to work normally

Conclusion: This appears to be a server-side failure or misconfiguration in the Canada proxy endpoint used by Firefox’s built‑in VPN. The issue is reproducible and persists across troubleshooting modes.

Please investigate the Canada endpoint for the built‑in VPN.
