Ad-blocker

I have just had to replace my PC following a bit of a disaster with my old one. The new PC has Windows 11. As usual I downloaded Firefox as I always use this. Somewhere in the installation of Firefox I must have been asked about blocking ads, but I don't remember. Now all ads are blocked, which I don't mind, but some sites are asking me to disable my ad-blocker if I want to use their site. Mostly I don't but there is one I need to use, so I would like to add that site as an exception, but I cannot find any mention of any ad-blocker in settings. Where do I find this? and how do I add exceptions?

The only add-on that I have in Firefox is the 'Privacy Badger' which could be the problem I suppose, but I can't see the website listed in the ones Privacy Badger is blocking.

Any help would be appreciated

Hey there, an issue can be that you chose your tracking protection to strict. Next to the url, on the left, you will see a shield like icon. When you click it, what does it say next to protection settings?

Hi. Thanks for replying. I saw this mentioned in another string but couldn't see the relevance. When I click on the shield all the references are about protection against tracking. I wonder if that is actually the problem. It's not that I am using an ad-blocker as such without knowing, it is that my tracker protection is probably set too high for some sites, and is recognising tracking apps linked to the adverts. This could mean that the site I want to access needs those adverts displayed to maintain part of its revenue stream. I know how to 'allow' individual sites access through my tracking protection so I will try that next time I access a site that is insisting on ad-blocking being off.

If that doesn't work...... 'I'll be back!' - as Arnold Schwarzenegger once famously said..

Thanks once again for replying. Reading support strings can be quite difficult unless you are very 'tech' orientated. Some of the answer read like shorthand to a non-tech person. Although I have been using computers for near on 50 years, I still find some difficulty in tech areas (don't get me started on 'smart' phones...

Happy to hear that this seemed to work. Feel free to leave a new comment if that's not the case, always happy to help.

I have now allowed a site 'through' my tracking protection and it certainly works. Their message specifically mentioned ad-blocking, and I can see that is what made me think I had ad-blocking switched on, when it was my tracking protection that was causing the problem.

Thanks for your help
