Hello,

Couple of days ago I could not start up Mozilla Firefox due to a corrupted file. Naturally, I was immediately worried about my bookmarks, extensions, browse history...

In the end I re-installed Mozilla Firefox -without removing my old folders on C-drive and in AppData- and was able to recover my old bookmarks and extensions just fine.

However, for my old browse history I am not so sure. I have not found a way to restore those.

Could someone help?

Thank you in advance!

Jorik, how did you restore your bookmarks and extensions? Did you copy files between profile folders, or were they just already there? Or did you use Sync to retrieve them?

If your new profile folder is not the same as the original profile folder, and you are not using Sync, then possibly the simplest way to restore history is to find the files "places.sqlite" and "favicons.sqlite" in the original profile folder, and copy them into the new profile folder, while Firefox is not running.

These files store all your bookmarks and history and website icons. Note though this will overwrite any newer bookmarks and history that have been subsequently made in the new profile.

Before the restore, you might first wish to make backup copies of all the files that will be copied or overwritten.

There is a third party program that can export Firefox history from any places.sqlite file. This isn't as handy as having it in your browser, but could be useful for reference if you don't find a way to get it back into Firefox.

What error message did you get? Did it mentioned what file(s) were corrupt?

If you had a problem with bookmarks and/or history then this likely means that you had a problem with places.sqlite. See:

Thank you all. I found the answer here. I did not know I also had to copy the favicons.sqlite file.

Thanks a lot!

how did you manage it? did you recover all the history?
