Update notifications
Firefox 63.03, Windows 10 Pro
I regularly check for the latest Firefox version. I randomly get update notifications. I am set to "ask" before installing.
I ok the update, but when I go to "Help" see the version, it has not changed.
I don't know if this is related or not, but I just ran a search on Youtube from my Firefox search bar. As soon as it opened the Youtube page, I got a popup notification of an update. It did not indicate what it was for, and there was no "ok" button, it just installed automatically. Again, no Firefox version change indicated.

Hmm, please be suspicious of update notifications that don't have the new design of "hanging" from the application menu. To make sure it's from Firefox and not part of the page, you can zoom (hold down Ctrl and tap the + key twice) and make sure it doesn't grow in size (reverse the effect by holding down Ctrl and tapping - twice).
Usually when Firefox notifies you that an update is available, it then will download the file. Eventually, it may mention or you may realize that you'll need to exit Firefox before the update actually is installed.
To find your current version details, you can use the first table on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
Currently you should see:
Version 63.0.3
I am suspicious, or at least curious about that latest popup notification when I was on Youtube.
It didn't look like any Firefox update notice I have ever seen.
I didn't see any indication about where it was from, but it disappeared after several seconds so I probably didn't get the best look.
I would think that if was a threat, it would require some cooperation from me to install it, don't you think? Why would I get a notification from something shady if it didn't require me to say "ok"?

You already run the current Firefox release (63.0.3), so you shouldn't get a message to update. The "Help -> About Firefox" window should confirm this and possibly show whether an update is available.
It seems clear that this is not a Firefox update, but I just went to YouTube again, and I immediately, once again, got some sort of unsolicited generic looking update popup window that did not require authorization/approval to install. Nothing to identify where it came from.
I was going to take a screen shot, but it was gone before I could.
All it said was "Update Notify" in the title bar.
I'd like to know if this is Firefox related, or any information related to it.

It could be a pop-up ad from the page, or it could be caused by one of your add-ons. If you clicked a link on a different site to get to YouTube, that link may have triggered the popup.
