emails will not delete

Can you provide some more details about what you're doing and what happens?

Thanks for responding. I have created a new Thunderbird account on a seperate log in for my wife. She can send an recieve emails normally but when she attempts to delete unwated emails nothing happens. She has tried to delete via the menu and 'right click' options to no avail. She previously managed her account via Thunderbird on Windows 7 and did not have this problem. Be grateful for any advice you can offer. Regards

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder

A: Is this in her own Windows 'User Account' which only has her Profile and her mail account? OR B: Is this in same Windows User Account as you, but she has her own Profile accessed via Profile Manager containing her own mail account? OR C: Is it in same Windows User Account as you, but she uses same Profile as you with her own mail account - so that you can see both mail accounts in same Folder Pane?

Could you also tell us what type of mail account she is using eg: Pop or IMAP ?

She was useing Thunderbird on Windows 7 but is now using Linux Mint 17 on a seperate log in to mine (superuser).

It is a pop3 account with the same setting as it was on Windows 7

If the Deleted foldre is full, it might not accept more deleted mail Is there a 'Deleted' folder in your Folder Pane? If yes, right click on Deleted folder and select 'Empty deleted' then right click again and select 'Compact'.

retry to delete.

If this does not work...try this: Remove the current trash file, you will lose all emails in the Deleted /Trash folder. Make hidden files visible:

In thunderbird

• Help > Troubleshooting information
• click on 'show folder' button
• it will open a new window showing your Profile folder.

• Close thunderbird now.
• click on Mail folder
• click on mail account name

• look for 'Trash' and 'Trask.msf' files
• Delete these files.

• restart Thunderbird

A new Trash folder should be created.

I am sorry but neither of this solutions worked. I have also tried deleting the email account and re-setting it but that did not cure the problem either.

Sorry to hear it didn;t work as this method of deleteing trash file has solved other instances like this in Linux Mint. Confirm Thundrebird was closed before deleting the Trash file otherwise it definately will not work.

Try using keyboard. Select email Alt 'E', then Alt 'D':

Try: Drag email and drop into Trash/Deleted folder. (In GB version it uses the word 'Deleted' folder, but US ones use the word 'Trash' folder) then right click on another you want to delete and select 'Move to Deleted again'

Try:: There is also 'Shift' + 'Delete' which should delete and remove immediately, but it does not save to Deleted folder. So only use if you don't need to keep - just get rid of.

Did any of these alternative methods work ?

Can she delete from any other folder? Is it only the Inbox folder that will not allow delete?

Check that there is no preference/privilege setting to stop action of delete - eg; modification to file is allowed - it is not read only.

I located this link on Linux forum - read last entry. they created another mail account - although I read that you have tried this.
