problems with "new" Google classic maps
FF is still not handling the "new" classic maps correctly, while Chrome does. I don't use Chrome much, so this has become a problem. I always have to replace the "maps." with "www." to get the map on FF to be fully functional. Unfortunately, most sites still use the old URL with the "maps." I just tried Google Calendar with Chrome as a test. I have a calendar entry with a location, and tried opening it with FF. It displayed the map for this URL: https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=27 ... ssic&dg=oo but you can't do anything (zoom, street view, etc.) with the map. I tried the same on Chrome, and it launched a tab with the exact same URL, but it works fine. Again, if I change that URL in FF to have the "www." prefix, it works fine. I've tried this on both Win 8.1 and Linux Mint 17, and the problem is still happening.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.
- Clear the Cache and
- Remove Cookies Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.
Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.
- Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
- Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.
If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
Then restart.
Thanks, Fred. I restarted in safe mode and the problem wasn't there. Disabling hardware acceleration didn't help, so I guess I'll have to find which extension/plugin is causing the problem, correct? Ari
What are your cookie settings?
It is possible that you have a cookie for the www variant and that you need a cookie for the top level domain without the www prefix (maps.google.com).
Are you allowing all cookies or are you using the 'Ask me' setting?
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
Also check the exceptions
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Thank, cor-el. I'm allowing all cookies. I had cleared the cache and removed all cookies before, according to Fred's instructions, but that didn't help. I didn't see google.com in the exceptions. I'm going to try creating a new profile and add extensions as needed.
Through process of elimination I found that the Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar FF add-on apparently renders the map unresponsive. After disabling it, Classic Maps works fine. I reported the problem to the add-on dev, and hopefully they'll fix it.
If you like the old classic interface, you can get that from: https://www.google.com/maps?output=classic You do not need to allow cookies to use it.
