Bug 1021684 to update box.com Filelink implementation with new APIs fails
Hello there,
I have a personal Box account, and run Mozilla Thunderbird 31.2.0 on a PC running Microsoft Windows 8.1.
In Thunderbird, I have enabled my Box account under Tools | Options | Attachments | Outgoing. I know that my log-on credentials have been stored on Thunderbird since from Thunderbird I can see my Box data allowance and usage.
However, when I try to convert a file attached to an unsent E-mail to a Box link, the upload just hangs and never completes, even for small file sizes:
Box inform me:
"Basically, this is not a box.com issue. Box.com changed API and deprecated the older API. It is a known issue at Thunderbird and should be fixed in the next release. Here is the Mozilla bug report - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1021684."
This bug is marked as "RESOLVED FIXED" but it does not work for me.
Could anyone help me with this, please?
My troubleshooting information is:

The fix may only be in the current Thunderbird 33 beta. When it will land in the release version I don't know. If you know what you're doing you may try the beta with a separate profile. Also make sure to backup your existing profile.

Upgraded my Box.com plan to 2GB upload to allow me to uplink a 697KB file - 4 minute HD MP4 movie. Uplink message appeared and seemed to be working for black progress ring was rotating. (Only learned it should be green when working later - see below)
Contacted box. Copy of email response attaced. Took their suggestion and installed latest Thunderbird beta. Restarted upload but as it was still running 2 hours later canned it.
Decided to experiment with 4 minute email format of same MP4 movie which came in at 47MB. On presssing Link button a window never seen before seeking authorisation for Box to access files appeared. Logged on as required and lo and behold, the progress ring turned to green and the file duly uploaded.
Not the end of my problems however. After sending the email brought it up again to test the link. On pressing the link a window appeared with a message that the file was not available for preview but that it could be downloaded. Pressed the blue download button but no download started. This happened more than a few times and then, as if by accident, the "you have requested a download of file aaaaa.???" came up. Taking the "view with" option the file displayed.
The point here is that while I am prepared to play around and stumble on the solution, the same should not be expected of the addressees receiving my email.
I trust this experience will be helpful in resolving the problem.
