After 2 days another problem starts and it occurs every time I open Thunderbird to send a message.

My message is send but it's not being...saved to the "Sent folder" ? Can somebody explain me if people in Mozilla really care about the Thunderbird? Their program is not even working properly! This happens EVERY day for 2 years! Why all those dozens of upgrades when we can't actually USE that program?

On my laptop (Macbook Pro 2020; macOS 10.15.7), in Thunderbird (78.6.1; 64-bit), within only one email account (IMAP; server type = owl), the messages I see in every folder for that account disappear every time Thunderbird checks for new messages. (I have changed the time value to verify this.) This of course just started happening today, has worked fine for many months before this (even last night), and I recall no changes having been made to trigger this.

I can see the messages in any given folder again "if" I click on another folder and then back on that original folder. It is as if Thunderbird is forced to reload/re-show them. Or, I can right click on any folder, choose Properties and then click Repair Folder. This, too will restore visibility to the messages, until Thunderbird checks for new messages; whereupon, they all disappear again.

In order to give you wonderfully helpful people more information, just in case...

  • I did add this email account in Thunderbird using the Owl for Exchange extension, which has worked great. I do not know if it may be the culprit. Restarting Thunderbird in Safe Mode cannot verify this operation since the account is not even available when doing so.
  • I have multiple email accounts created in Thunderbird, even other IMAP accounts, and this only happens with one account.
  • This same problem email account does not have issues online or through my phone.
  • I noticed that this problem email account is the only one that will not allow me to Compact Folders. That option is greyed out for some reason.
  • If I have unread messages in my Inbox, then the Inbox folder still indicates as much, even though the messages are not visible until I re-jog things.

I am currently out of ideas.

I have Thunderbird on three macs. All three are on Thunderbird version 78.6.1 using imap. One mac on Big Sur, the other two on Sierra. Interesting however, that only on one "Sierra" Mac, I cannot search: "email address=> search message. Neither pull-down menu "subject" or "contains" can be changed to other search criteria, and it does not accept any text in the search query. However, "search" from main windows ( top right ) works. On the other two macs everything is fine. Tried remove and re-install Thunderbird including profile, and configured new profile. Nothing changes, same problem. The only difference is, the working Thunderbird is on a macbook pro ( Sierra ), and the non functional is on a Mac-mini ( Sierra ). Any ideas ?

Since upgrading to Thunderbird 78.6.1 my email accounts that are IMAP are performing very poorly. In particular, every time I select a message Thunderbird re-downloads the entire message from the server. It takes many minutes for Thunderbird to start as it seems to be redownloading all messages in every IMAP account every time. This makes the larger accounts with many messages unusable. It wasn't like this before the last upgrade. Is there some setting I need to change or is this a bug introduced in the latest Thunderbird? Thanks for any guidance.

As of this morning, I have been receiving the message

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: chrome://calendar/content/calendar-alarm-dialog.js:382"

Thunderbird has become extremely slow, freezing up for 30+ seconds after each mouse click. Clicking the Stop Script button makes no difference so it isn't clear if these things are actually related, but they started at the same time.

I would appreciate the fix or any suggestions.

Thundrbird odd files in cache2 & cache2\entries directories/folders

OS = Windows 7 (64 bit) Browser = Firefox version 84.0.2 (32-bit) Thunderbird = Thunderbird version 68.8.1 (32-bit) Synchronization software = Microsoft SyncToy version 2.1 (64 bit) External hard drives = Samsung 5 TByte

My normal procedure for keeping my three (3) computers synchronized is to run SyncToy at least once a week. That puts the latest version of any piece of data on all three computers. I then synchronize my main computer to three (3) 5 TByte external hard drives.

SyncToy is known to screw up when it cannot determine which data file is the newest by the file date in it's cache file (a Microsoft .dat file.) I end up with test.txt and test.1.txt on some hard drives as a result.

This past week I discovered my Thunderbird directory/folder increased in size tremendously. Numerous files in the directories/folders cache2 & cache2\entries have two (2) files with the same name except for one (1) of each file has a .1 on the end. The size of the files seem to be identical.

Example: 0710D3592D67032272A741CF6F0F4734A5F29E16 0710D3592D67032272A741CF6F0F4734A5F29E16.1

Before I delete the files with the .1 extension (hundreds and hundreds of files) I am asking if this is a SyncToy screw up or is something wrong with Thunderbird.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello! I have been a Thunderbird user for many years now and I absolutely love it. The problem that occurred a few weeks ago is actually the first I have ever encountered, so I'm really hoping someone can help me solve it. I have always had several email accounts set up in Thunderbird. My current ISP is Spectrum (formerly Charter in my area). My primary email accounts are all xxxx@charter.net accounts. I also have a few older email accounts set up from when I had AT&T as my ISP and these accounts are all xxxx@sbcglobal.net accounts. The first thing that happened a few weeks ago was that I stopped receiving emails at any of the xxxx@sbcglobal.net accounts. When I open Thunderbird now, my Charter emails all come in fine but an error message comes up relating to the xxxx@sbcglobal.net accounts (see images). I am able to log in to the web-based email site to get all of these emails with my email addresses and passwords associated with each account, but they simply no longer come in to Thunderbird. That is problem #1. Problem #2 occurs when I try to set up a new Charter email account in Thunderbird. I use the automatic configuration option and the first screen says that the necessary settings have been found, but when I click "Done" I get the error message shown (again, see images). When I attempt to manually configure the account, I compare the settings to my other Charter email accounts that are all sending and receiving emails just fine and cannot for the life of me see any differences. So...I'm stuck. Any help that the membership might be able to offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi, Thunderbird notified me of an update this morning, worked fine before that, I installed the latest update (78.6.1) and since then, the program starts with a blank window and isn't responding anymore. Running Windows10 home 1909. Since I've had this problem before after another update, I already tried the following: - new profile, I completely removed all traces of Thunderbird files under my AppData folder (local, localLow and roaming), it does exactly the same with a completely fresh profile so the issue is not profile related. Everything after that has been done with a fresh profile every time. - uninstalled Mozilla Maintenance Service, because last time I had this problem, uninstalling this service fixed the issue, not this time. - tried safe mode, even with a fresh install it would load at least the menu this time before not responding. - restart windows, several times. - tried 32 and 64bit versions, tried 78.5.1, same thing, 68.9.0 started right away, but I can't use my old(new) profile with this one, splendid.

I've already wasted several days with this issue last time and this is getting reaaally frustrating, I don't know what changed the past couple updates, but this is getting worse every time. Thanks for any kind of help.

Hello,

I am using an OpenSuse 42.2 system. Around a week back, I upgraded to Thunderbird 78.6.0 by doing a manual install, since support for automatic update by opensuse is not availabe as the system is old. I am using a Dell Inspiron 15 7579 laptop.

After a few days of downloading all old mails on POP3 from various mailboxes, I started facing the problem of my computer hanging suddenly. The keyboard, display freezes and if left as it is it stays the same way for hours together. The only way of coming out of the situation is to do a hard reset by pushing the power button of the laptop. I used to face similar problems in Firefox, but it was not that frequent and a recent update from Firefox version to the latest version with a manual install helped in resolving this issue.

I managed to capture the error message which appeared a couple of times after a few hours on my mobile and am attaching the same. The error codes in each instance are different.

On searching through the forums, I learnt that sometimes the addons to Thunderbird can cause such problems and the solution given was to restart Thunderbird with the addons disabled. I did the same, but the problem remained. The only addons that I had enabled was TBSync, CalDAV, Provided for Google Calendar and Google Calendar Tab. I have also disabled all the addons, but the problem persists.

Over the last few days, I have been able to work on my laptop for less than a couple of hours (without Thunderbird running) due to this issue.

I also checked the Tools - WebDeveloper for error messages and found the following:

[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH) [nsIXPCComponents_Utils.readUTF8URI]" nsresult: "0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH)" location: "JS frame :: resource://gre/modules/L10nRegistry.jsm :: L10nRegistry.loadSync :: line 658" data: no] L10nRegistry.jsm:658:19 Successfully loaded OpenPGP library librnp.so from /opt/thunderbird78/thunderbird/librnp.so RNPLib.jsm:49:13 public keys: 0, secret keys: 0 RNPLib.jsm:247:15 [Exception... I am not able to make out anything out of these errors.

I have been using Thunderbird (as well as Firefox) since its inception in 2004 except for the last 3 years when I was using Evolution. I hate to give up on Thunderbird and request for support to find out what causes the Frequent Unresponsive Script Error.

PS: As an afterthought, as a remote chance, could the issue be due to some hardware problems on the laptop. I am not sure since I am not facing any other problems in any other application except for some noise due to the fan.

Regards

When I open the Windows app it says "searching" with what looks like a soundwave symbol/double back to back sideways wifi symbols "((( )))", never finds anything and doesn't check for new messages unless I physically click the Get Messages button. The account identity is set to get new messages automatically. Recently I deleted a second email identity. I get the feeling the program is not treating an email account as a default or primary or something. Note where the "focus" is on the upper left column. When I click Get Messages it moves to the active email account.

Running Version 78.0 / Windows 64 bit.

I have a number of contacts in my main address book. I'll focus on two. Both appear in the address book as {Last Name}, {First Name}, {Email}

I've dragged these two names to a new mailing list. The list has headings of "Name" and "Email". One contact appears on that list under "Name" as {Last Name, First Name}, with the contact's email address in the form xxx@yyy.com under "Email"

However the other has only "xxx" (i.e., the first part of the email address) under Name, though with the correct email address under Email.

If I double-click either contact's name, both appear with exactly the same format. I have "Always prefer display name over message header" checked, and the display name for both is {FirstName LastName}

Why are most contacts listed with their last and first names, but this one is listed with only a single "name", namely the first part of their email address?

(In this particular example, both contacts have the same last name but different first names and email addresses. However I believe I've run into the same problem with contacts with completely different names.)

XML Parsing Error: error in processing external entity reference Location: chrome://messenger/content/messenger.xhtml Line Number 44, Column 1: %brandDTD; ^

I do have Chrome installed, though I never use it.

Tried using system restore, twice, for 3 and then 6 days ago. Neither worked. Those are the only restore points I have.

I tried redownloading Thunderbird to reinstall but it warns that it does NOT use my previous settings - which is a nightmare! I have no idea what the settings were, as I never change them.

'(

It is possible to force the newest version to use my older settings? I'm not willing to install it if it will overwrite the original.

Or any ideas how to fix the "parsing error", whatever that is?

Thanks

Until today, hyperlinks in email messages worked fine. Clicking a link caused the page to be opened in the default browser. Last night, Windows updated itself to Windows 10, version 20H2, including various cumulative updates. Included were some .NET updates and updates for Adobe Flash Player, although as far as I can tell, Flash Player is not installed. Nothing else changed. My preferred browser is still set as the Windows default. I went through the hyperlink troubleshooting steps here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working#w_problems-with-received-or-saved-mails and found nothing. I did not do the reinstall Thunderbird step, however.

Any suggestions?
