I keep getting this error for seemingly random websites: Content Encoding Error The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

I am getting the content encoding error on random websites, even simple ones like walmart.com. I also get re-directed to strange random websites from time to time. I have done a malware check and updated firefox but it still happens.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
