how do i stop windows from changing when i click the firefox icon on macbook pro dock

jmsny44

i'm on a macbook pro. the firefox icon is in my dock. when i'm in another app and i want to go to the firefox window i access several times daily, i'm instead brought to the window i went to most recently and i have to tap the icon again to get to the one i want and this happens every time i tap the icon. i've rebooted several times, i've cleared cache except for passwords. i don't know what else to do and it's really annoying

Not sure if this is not actually Apple support question per se, let's check:

when i'm in another app and i want to go to the firefox window i access several times daily, i'm instead brought to the window i went to most recently

So say you have Firefox.app running from earlier, then you had a Calendar.app window open, and then moved to Notes.app — and when you click Firefox dock icon you're switched to Calendar.app instead?

If that's not the scenario, could you elaborate a bit more to help understand this? (Or record a video if you're able to, and share a link here.)

Change from what to what else, if you have an example?

the firefox icon is in my dock.

Running or not? If running, with windows open somewhere? How many, all maximized, minimized etc.?

want to go to the firefox window i access several times daily

An existing window that you have open somewhere (other Space? minimized to Dock? … or just, somewhere on the screen under other ones), right?

i'm instead brought to the window i went to most recently

If this is some Firefox window, but not the one you'd like — how is the one you'd like significant in terms of how the system should tell it's "the one" you'd like to see? If you have anything more recent open on top of it, that's what will be in focus.

Or you're saying that you have no other windows open, just the one you want to switch to, and instead of switching a different window (re)opens with content you already closed off?

Thanks for sharing this issue. Managing multiple Firefox windows on macOS can be confusing, especially when switching between apps. Clear guidance on Dock behavior, Mission Control, and Spaces could help users find the correct window more easily.
