Thunderbird on Android

Recently started using Thunderbird on Pixel 9a, Android v16. Just installed newest update to OS. Emails do not sync properly. New messages that are in my Gmail do not show up in Thunderbird until I do a manual update. This is true for all folders, but especially trash and spam. For example, messages that appeared in my Gmail trash folder this morning did not show up in Thunderbird trash at 7 pm MST this evening. When I did a manual sync, 10 messages from this morning suddenly showed up in Thunderbird. In Thunderbird settings, Background sync is set for Always. What do I need to do?

Two things I'd recommend checking.

a) Have you excluded the app from any android battery optimisations and allowed it to run in the background. This is a common reason for email's not synchronising in a timely manner.

  1. Long press the app launcher icon > app info > battery usage.
  2. Toggle "Allow background activity" to ON.

b) Each folder you wish to sync automatically must have it's sync setting turned on (Inbox on by default).

  1. Open the account list.
  2. Tap the applicable account.
  3. Tap manage folders (bottom of list).
  4. Tap folder's name.
  5. Toggle "Sync" to ON.

Thanks. Turning on syncing for each folder solved the problem. A bit of a tedious process, but successful.
