Hello, Here is what I consider a new bug in TB. It goes this way: While I am reading a message in the message pane of the standard window (not in its own window), if messages arrive (with a small ding for me), the message pane I am reading goes BLANK and the message I was reading is deselected. I have to reselect the message I am reading and scroll down to where I was. This behavior is very annoying and did not exists in previous versions.

I hope this helps. Thank you , Alain Damlamian

I think I found the culprit. It seems that the problem disappears when I disable an extension which I really like: Deselect on Delete (https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/user/bazuchan/)

If this can be tweeked to avoid the problem, I would certainly appreciate it.

Thank you for your reaction. Sorry, I stupidly thought this info was in with my Login. Mac OS 14.7.6 (Sonoma) on a MacBook Pro 2021 Apple M1 Max TB version 140.1.0esr (aarch64) I just updated to 140.2.1esr (aarch64) and it happens the same way. Alain

Does that also happen in [Troubleshoot mode](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird)?

Does the problem go away if you disable automatic compact in Settings?

more options

1- I am not completely sure, but it seems not to happen in Troubleshooting mode. 2- It still happens with automatic compact disabled.

What addon extensions have you installed - using or not? post a list : In Thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • scroll down to 'Add-ons section
  • Copy and paste the all the data in that section into this forum question or just upload an image showing everything.

Hello, This never occured in Troubleshooting mode.

It seems it does not occur any more in normal mode (it used to happen when clicking on Get Messages and there were new messages).

My TB version now is 140.3.0esr (aarch64). Perhaps things were fixed in it.

You'd need to report it at https://github.com/bazuchan/thunderbird-deselect-on-delete/issues

Perhaps it is already covered under https://github.com/bazuchan/thunderbird-deselect-on-delete/issues/5. However, there is no resonse from the author, so perhaps the add-on has been abandoned.

That add-on hasn't been necessary for a long time. Enable TB menu > Settings > General > Reading & Display > 'Close message window/tab on move or delete'.

Hello Ed, I have tested that Settings > General > Reading & Display > 'Close message window/tab on move or delete'. But it is not the same. I am referring to a different behavior with messages in the message pane. I usually look at messages in the message pane of the main window, below the mailbox content. That is the message that disappears on a regular basis when new messages arrive and the add-on Deselect on delete is active. When the add-on is not activated, the message stays in that pane until I click on another message of the mailbox (or if I change mailboxes on the mailbox pane).

I don't understand why you need the add-on. Anyway, I tried to reproduce the problem and could not. So maybe there is interference coming from another add-on. To test, disable all except Deselect.

Thanks for the reply. but before disabling all my add-ons (except Deselect), it would be nice to have a way of keeping a list of these add-ons. Is there a way to do that ?

TB menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Add-ons section. Simply disabling them shouldn't make any changes. Deleting them will!
