The credit card save/auto-fill option seems to have disappeared from the settings on Firefox. I previously had it set to 'off', but when there was an issue recently I found the option was gone - although the about:config was still showing credit card options. Has this option been removed from Firefox now?

It wasn't removed, but availability could be changed. You have to find your country on the extensions.formautofill.creditCards.supportedCountries list.

Yes, was aware of the country thing. I'm in UK which is an included area, I think. I was wondering if, being as tho I use a VPN, some sites seem to inaccurately pick this up as being in non-included areas, like Romania, perhaps I'm being seen as non-uk and not having this option as available? This doesn't really matter to me - so long as my credit card is not being saved or auto-filled I don't need it that's fine. Just curious about what happened to that option. Its not clear on the browser what's happening there.

You can enable the form autofill and credit card autofill feature by modifying some extensions.formautofill prefs on the about:config page, but no guarantee that this works properly. You can set extensions.formautofill prefs that have a value of "detect" to "on", close and restart Firefox after changing those prefs. extensions.formautofill.addresses.supported => "on" extensions.formautofill.creditCards.supported => "on"

Yes, I did those things a while back and it didn't make any difference! That's actually why I asked here - it seemed odd those items were in about:config but didn't actually work! Still no options in the settings page.

As these options are still not showing on the settings page I have the about:config settings for 'saved/auto-fill' as false. I hope that this works as I don't want my cards saved or filled.

more options

You can add your country code to the supportedCountries prefs.

extensions.formautofill.creditCards.supportedCountries
extensions.formautofill.creditCards.hideui => false (Boolean)
extensions.formautofill.addresses.enabled => true (Boolean)
extensions.formautofill.creditCards.enabled => true (Boolean)

Already had those settings on Firefox. No options showing on settings page. To confirm - which entries on about:config do I set to make sure cards are not saved and auto-fill is off?

more options

Setting these to false (remove the checkmarks in Settings) and removing all saved items should be sufficient.

  • extensions.formautofill.addresses.enabled => false
  • extensions.formautofill.creditCards.enabled => false

Thanks, I checked these, they were already set as this.

There are no checkmarks in settings -- those cardsave options not showing in settings, so seems I can't remove anything already saved. Unless they are in a profile somewhere. Hopefully nothing had been saved previously.

(I had a case recently where my bank card number was auto-filled on a website and caused a security fuss with the company and my bank. Hopefully this will prevent that happening again.)

You can set both to 'off' to disable them if you have no intention to use either.

extensions.formautofill.addresses.supported => "off"
extensions.formautofill.creditCards.supported => "off"

Do actually type 'off' in these entries?

more options

Yes, double-click the line and replace 'detect' or 'on' by off (no quotes). You can also clear the supportedCountries prefs (leave its value blank).

Good, thanks BTW, when these are set to 'detect' and a 'list of countries' they are still not showing on the settings page... I'm confused. Are people meant to use 'about:config' to be able to use these options? What does 'detect' mean?

Perhaps I should file a bug report. This is a potential security issue if people can't easily switch off personal data leaks out of their browser?
