Thunderbird 115.5.1 is still not shwoing the correct number of unread emails

I received three emails and it shows 3 correctly in the task bar icom. But when I read one, it shows ZERO unread instead of two. This has caused me to miss emails and be slow in responding because of not knowing how many unread emails I have. Is there a setting that can correct this or is it a bug? Thanks.

Settings/General/Incoming Mails, App Icon Options, select Count of unread messages.
