Hi,

WHY WHY WHY did you change Thunderbird?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I DO NOT like the new format at all!!! I am a senior citizen and do not take changes well. Find the new to be way to confusing.

Have used Mozilla Thunderbird for years and years but may have to change to something else. Have read and re-read the info of the new - TO CONFUSING!!!

Why did you have to change a good product to something others can not make sense of??!!!!

A very upset user!!!!!!!!!!!! Sandra

Hi the community :)

I I've been using TB for a long time. I search a mean to parse mail file (like INBOX, etc.) from outside TB. From "outside" I mean a Linux bash script which that I can manage myself. The goal is to extract the mail bodies and the same metadata as found in global-messages-db.sqlite (aka gloda) which would be presented in clear (without problems with accents and encoding). So I tried to write some scripts with commands like (g)awk, tr and others. Quickly I realized that between the different MIME encodings (content-type and content-transfer-encoding), character sets (Unicode or not), RFC standards that have changed (before we could write a content-type on several lines as explained here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/31237198/is-it-possible-to-include-multiple-crlfs-in-a-http-header-field), the multipart mail (multipart/mixed etc.) it was a huge mess to parse. So I asked to myself if I wasn't reinventing the wheel and a better possibility existed....

I know I could parse the source code of TB to determine what goes on behind the scenes when I view the contents of an IMAP folder for example but I don't know where to start. Mainly I wonder if I can not directly use the functions of an SO library (under Linux) from outside of TB

This is why I ask you who read me if you know a solution to guide me in the right direction.

Regards lnj

My mail (IMAP) provider creates two Junk folders, one as a subfolder under the Inbox, and another at the same folder level as the Inbox (see image). I only use one (the Inbox subfolder), but try as I might to unsubsribe to the other one, Thunderbird continues to display it, and checking the subsribe list shows the box ticked again. Is there something I can do with this?

We're experiencing a problem wherein I hope the images can do the talking. Basically, forwarding certain HTML e-mails causes anything added in composition to be in a really tiny font (image 3). Even the part that says "Forwarded Message" also gets really tiny. I believe what's happening is that the content of the original message is set inside a table or something, and the body of the message as interpreted by Thunderbird is the boilerplate stuff at the bottom (image 4).

Although one can highlight the composition area text and hit the larger font size button, some users may find that awkward. Is there a configuration setting or add-on to ensure a minimum font size when composing in forwards?

Version 78.2.2 is not working in IMAP. Somehow one person in my office had their Thunderbird auto update to Ver 78.2.2 and when it did, she was no longer able to send or receive emails. I had to do a system restore on her entire computer to roll back to a previous version. I accidentally updated mine to Ver 78.2.2 when I clicked "About" to find my version. But since mine is set-up as POP3 account, it did not disable my send/receive abilities. At least I believe that is why mine still worked after the update and hers did not.

Also, I completely dislike the folder tree on the left side of the screen. It used to have easy to recognize folder icons. Now all the folders are static outlines of a folder. And to make it worse, the folder icon is bolder than the text info, so those folder icons kind of glare at you. If you are going to minimize the folder appearance by removing the manila coloring, at least do not use a bold outline of a folder. Also, I would prefer when using the option to add a color to a folder that the color be a fill as they were in Ver68, rather than a stroke in Ver 78.

I've attached screen shots from two different computers so you can see the difference between the two version trees and appearance.

Additionally, I noticed at the bottom of the open email on Ver 78, this message: "Quick Reply is temporarily disabled due to needing rewriting for Thunderbird 68+."

I used to have a delete shortcut on the menu bar, when I try to add it from customize it is grayed out and not letting me use it.

It would be nice if I could roll back my version of Thunderbird to a previous one without having to do an entire system restore of my computer.

However, there are some things I like better, conversational view is great in that it shows what folders the rest of the conversation resides in. Some of the things I used to have to go to the task bar for are right there in the email, like source and header views. There might be other things that might make it more useful. Will know more as I use it for a few days/weeks.

About half the time I start Thunderbird I get a popup that says that the server rejected my message because it might contain spam. There are no messages in my out box. There should be no messages sent on startup. I uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird to no avail.

Is it possible that I have a corrupted profile?

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Art

Greetings!

Since updating to 78.2.2 I find that the Message Rules window opens in a very tall shape that leaves the OK button inaccessible without manually resizing the window every time. It won't save the window in the resized state. I have tried safe mode with add-ons disabled and reset toolbars without result.

I also always encounter "Thunderbird Not Responding" fault while using Message Filters.

Any tips? Cheers, Dave

I have 42 pep_tmp-xx directories in my Thunderbird profile. The xx stands for numbers from 1 to 42. Each of these directories is either 22.8MB or 23.8MB. Inside each of them there are several sub-directories and files as follows: pepmda Inside of which there are two directories: bin share and a file version.json

bin contains concrt140.dll gpgme-w32spawn.exe libetpan.dll libgpgme-11.dll msvcp140.dll pep-json-server.exe pEpEngine.dll vccorlib140.dll vcruntime140.dll

share has a PeP sub-directory then an HTML sub-directory with other files in it a PackageVersion file and a System.db file

What are they used for? I'm using Thunderbird 78.2.2 after upgrading from 68.12 and therefore I do not know if they preexisted.

I recently returned to my home computer after having been away from it for a few months.

When I pulled up Thunderbird; I found that all of my e-mails (including folders) are gone. I am wondering if the e-mail accounts may have become disconnected from the program.

Where can I go to see if the files are still there & how do I re-associate them with my account?

Good Morning and thanks to anyone that can help. This morning when I opened Thunderbird my personnel contact list had changed. I still had the names of my contacts, but before my list also contained the addresses for my contacts and they was missing. Also, all of my "Collected" addresses were gone. In their place was a little silhouette of a man for each. I don't recall doing anything different last night when I turned my computer off. I have a complete systems backup, but I don't wish to go that route because of the information that would be lost from the interim. Is there any way to restore both my contact list to their prior configuration? Thanks greatly for any assistance, Alan

When I select "Trash" and move the cursor over to the body of emails, all the emails in that folder disappear. Also, if I ever want to print preview any email, the display appears and immediately disappears so that I can't view it before printing. The company who looks after my laptop (Windows 10) if I have problems, says it is a Thunderbird known problem which should be solved by the latest update. I have checked the version I am on which is 68.12.0, successfully installed on the 29 August 20. Can anyone help me to solve these problems please?

I have been using Thunderbird with one ISP and one mail account for years. I am moving to a new provider. I want to add a new mail account. Everything I have seen on the forums talks about the Inbox and how to make it Global. What about all the other folders I have. Can they be shared with the new account. They are not currently sub-accounts of the Inbox. Also, when my current ISP is out of the picture, can I return to my current structure of one non-Global Inbox? Thanks.

Today while using Thunderbird, I noticed that a bunch of emails that should be being placed into folders, were coming into the inbox instead. I expanded the inbox to look at the folders and all but a handful of them were gone. I checked on the server and the folders are still there, so I right-clicked clicked on the email account and selected "subscribe". All of my missing folders are there, but un-checked. When I try to check them, the checkmark won't "stick".

https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-09-16-15-35-39-4db039.png

I uninstalled Thunderbird and manually removed all of its directories form my PC, then removed all references to Thunderbird from the registry, restarted the machine and reinstalled Thunderbird. When I re-added the email account, the same thing happened. I cannot subscribe to most of my folders.

What gives?
