I left a specific question with no response. How do I get a reply?
Mozilla no longer downloads my emails from my provider. Only happened since the latest updates updates before Christmas. I have repaired files cleared histories stopped AVG and deleted and reloaded in (Programs x86) restarted AVG still nothing. I checked the passwords. I spoke to AVG who say the problem is not theirs. How do I get Thunderbird to work properly? I am no technie so any advice will need to be step by step.

re :since the latest updates before Christmas Are you refering to Thunderbird updates?
Please post the follwoing: In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'Copy text to clipboard' In this forum question, Right click in a 'Post a Reply' text box and select 'Paste' You can edit/remove all info on fonts and printers but nothing else.
When you try to 'get Messages' what happens?
What is written in the bottom status bar ...login, connecting etc
Do you get an error message?
If yes, what does it say...word for word or post an image of message.
Are you able to logon to webmail via browser ok?

The messages are as follows stephen.j.lee@btinternet.com..........connected to mail.internet.com Each btinternet account shows its own address plus this message stevecsl@hotmail.com ................connected to imap-email.outlook.com similar with floripa.english
Never stays long on screen and of course nothing happens.
Yes I can get my emails with the web browser.
Hmm, my (working!) btinternet settings seems to be the same as yours, so there's nothing obviously wrong:

Which of your accounts are having trouble? Which ones work?
I don't much like bt's email; it's never been reliable, so I haven't ever set up more than one account. Does each of your bt accounts need ts own distinct matching smtp setting? You may find that one btinternet account cannot send via another's smtp.
Wasconnected to mail.internet.coma typing error? Should it be mail.btinternet.com?

Apologies yes it should read mail.btinternet
I have had this bt internet address since the mid 1990's. Up to 2009 I used Outlook but then a series of problems meant I switched to Mozilla. I have never had download problems before. All the btinternet addresses are independent but are linked through the principal address stephen.j.lee. Hope someone can come up with a solution.
In answer to Toad Hall the updates I refer to were in sequence. A big update from Windows10. Then a consequential update from Thunderbird and then AVG. Everything worked before AVG but I have been on to them and they have discounted any error on their part. Now I am trying Mozilla. Not everyone is computer program savvy and the solutions need to be easier to identify and rectify.
The error message seems to imply that connection is occuring but then all goes wrong, so the Firewall appears to be allowing Thunderbird.
Please try the following in this order:
- Exit Thunderbird
- Disable AVG
- Change AVG setting to stop AVG from scanning incoming emails.
- Relaunch AVG
- Start Thunderbird.
Please report back on results.

Unhappily it made no difference.
Exit TB and all other programs.
Reboot computer so it starts using 'Safe Mode with Networking'. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
Start Thunderbird.
Report back on results of using the computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking' mode.
Mr. Toad. I followed your instructions but sadly there was no change. Everything remained the same. Is there a next step?
Anybody with further ideas?
In the lull of receiving further potential solutions I tried once again to delete the Mozilla program from programs (x86) in C drive. This time rebooting after the deletion and before the new install. sadly the result is still the same and there is no change to the lack of activity when requesting the messages. I need to find a solution.
