Query Firefox folder in AppData/Local/Temp

Not long ago I noticed a folder in the above directory entitled "BCLTMP". Within this folder is another called "firefox", which contains yet more folders entitled aushelper@mozilla.org, default, e10srollout@mozilla.org, plus other similar ones. I have tried deleting the root folder, but it is recreated each time I boot the computer. What are these for, and why have they quite recently appeared, please?

I'm guessing from the names you mentioned:

Some features and "hot fixes" are now addeed to Firefox as extensions so they can be updated on an independent schedule from the program itself. These are hidden from the Extensions list on the Add-ons page, but you can see them on the Troubleshooting Information page. They should all have @mozilla.org in their IDs (except one I think still uses @getpocket.com). "default" might be the default theme;

If you haven't used that Troubleshooting Information page before, you can open it using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

If you scroll down, you'll find an Extensions heading and then a table listing them.

All that said, temp files should get cleaned up when they are no longer needed, so I don't know why the folder lingers.

The only folders that contain anything are classicthemerestorer (which I installed) and default - which is 10.5MB. I do hate it when programs arbitrarily add stuff without my knowledge or consent and then don't clear up after themselves when they are done. Presumably there are no setting changes I can make to Firefox that will prevent these folders hanging about, and, incidentally, why is the root folder called BCLTMP and not Firefox?

You are much more attentive to your temp folder than I am -- I have crap in there from 12 months ago, although neither of the ones you mentioned.

I really have no idea why things do not get cleaned out automatically, sorry.

Do you have a features folder in the profile folder?

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

cor-el : I have accessed the profile folder and it only shows : Default profile : no, then the Root and Local Directory paths, both of which point to 07oz0pkw.default. No features folder.

jscher2000 : I like to keep tabs on my Local/Temp, TIF, and Windows/Temp folders as there is an awful lot of c**p that gets left in them when programs do not clean up after themselves.

I really would like to stop this BCLTMP folder from recreating itself over and over again, if possible, especially as it seems that no-one else has the same thing happening - or is not bothered by it.
