A tab automatically appears each time I use Firefox - and I don't know how to remove it.

Can you post more information about the tab that appears? Can you also clarify which product you need help with, Firefox for laptop/desktop computers running Mac OS X 10.8 or Firefox for iPhone, iPad or iPod mobile devices?
