I am plagued by demands that I allow Thunderbird to "permanently delete all" my email from Gmail. Why would I want to do that????? I'd like for Thunderbird to be able to compose, send, receive, and delete emails in Gmail, but not permanently delete all of my email there. What can I do?

Please provide more information, as there is no need to delete all mail.
