I'm using Firefox 13 beta. The new-tab page is an awesome feature, but it does not work well.

When i'm visiting sites it does not changes. It still like this: http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/2474/56130e74e4b842268628eba.png

If I restart Firefox, the new-tab page will have some sites, but with no thumbnails, like this: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/8289/74eadf18095b43a39696159.png

Sorry for my bad English.

Chosen solution

The thumbnails on the about:newtab page are generated from the cache, so if the page is not in the cache or otherwise can't be rendered as a PNG image then you will get an empty box.

Are you using Clear Recent History to clear data when you close Firefox?

If there is no history then you get a window with empty boxes.

Hello Juca123,

I'm sorry to hear that you are facing issues with Firefox 13's New Tab Page, but can unfortunately not do much to resolve it as Firefox 13 is currently in Beta and that implies that you might and will most likely experience bugs like this. You can however refer to the following support question for alternatives until it is fixed: how to see recently visited sites on firefox new tab This should hopefully set you up.

If you still require assistance regarding this issue or if you have any more inquiries regarding the matter, feel free to let me know in a reply below. If you found this answer helpful, please mark it as Solution.

Thank you for your valuable time and your great patience, and all your interest in Mozilla Firefox. Surf safe and have a great day!

I'm using Firefox 13 stable and I have 9 sites but no thumbnails, I tried the safe mode, and I still have the problem.

Do you get thumbnails if you visit one of the sites?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Thanks for your reply.

I do not use Private Browsing, my history settings are "Keep history" (I'm using the french version of Firefox, I'm not sure if the translation is accurate).

Is the cache working if you check that via the about:cache page and "Tools > Options > Advanced > Network"?

more options

In about:cache I have :

Memory cache device Number of entries: 1590 Maximum storage size: 32768 KiB Storage in use: 28780 KiB Inactive storage: 28780 KiB

Offline cache device Number of entries: 385 Maximum storage size: 512000 KiB Storage in use: 8232 KiB

In Tools/Options/Advanced/Network it says the cache is using 8M of disk space.

I deleted the content of the cache folder, and now it seems to work.
