I installed vshare plugin to watch streaming videoss, and since then it hijacked my the new homepage for FF4 search engine. At first I changed back my homepage to default, which restored the new FF4 homepage, but when i searched, it used the vshare search engine. I changed keyword.url in about:config to no prevail. Also i searched for vshare and found 1 value and deleted it, can't remember what it is...

thanks for your help,

N.B. I suspect that the firefox home may be a fake one because there is no preference and options... If not then the search engine used by the homepage is changed

Please check about:config for that vshare pref again, as it might have be reinstalled after you restarted Firefox, and post that preference here.

I am trying to figure out how that about:home search engine is getting changed. I am not a programmer, just another user, and I can't even find the code in Firefox that sets that search engine to even start to figure out how to lock it against being changed. I hesitate installing anything like vshare or ask that users have reported as changing that search engine, because I am afraid it might change it globally, for all my Firefox 4+ Profiles. I don't mind sacrificing one Profile to experiment with, but I don't want to screw up 20+ Profiles that I have for testing Firefox 4.0, 5.0b, and 6.0a versions, which use the about:home homepage.

I checked that, Its google, as I have changed it, its not reverting back.

I dont know how they change the search engine of the about:home page, I dont think the keyword.url is for the homepage anyway, when i played with it, it only affected what you enter in the address bar, for example if you enter something other than a site address it will search for it using the search engine specified in the Keyword.url

Also I have fixed the values for the search engines on the right, was changed as well, (damn spyware)

I searched on the internet and found many posts about that, changed many values also to no prevail

Couldn't find the one for the about:home page

I've decided to delete my firefox profile and make another clean one! that will do it. I'm sure there is a value somewhere changed but can't figure out which one is it, the search engine used by the about:home is changed.

Thanks Anyways

You need a specific web address in the keyword.URL setting. Simply adding google (dot) com won't do. Use this one: http://www.google.com/search?q=

It becomes a link here, so right click, then "Copy Link Location". Then CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type it all.

I had this problem. I got rid of the toolbar by finding this folder... C:\\Users\\{YOUR USER}\\AppData\\Roaming\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\afgdwxmi.default\\extensions\\vshare@toolbar and simply removed the folder called 'vshare@toolbar'. I checked, vshare still works when you delete this folder, but the annoying toolbarhome search engine has gone. I hope this helps
