How to disable auto-pinning recent sites to new tab shortcuts while keeping browsing history enabled?

Demonul

I would like to disable the automatic creation/pinning of shortcut tiles for recently visited websites on the Firefox Home / New Tab page, while keeping my full browsing history (Ctrl+H) saved in the browser background.

Currently, even when toggling options on the about:preferences#home page, visited sites continue to automatically generate shortcut tiles on the home screen unless the entire history is turned off.

Is there a setting, hidden about:config preference, or workaround to completely prevent recent sites from automatically populating the shortcut grid while keeping full browsing history active?

Thank you!
