Bookmarks are different between regular browswer and private browsing
I have been confused on the last several days, until I finally realized what was happening. The bookmarks are not the same in the regular browser and the private windows browsing. I am not sure why they would be different. I use Windows 11 pro and installed the Firefox app. I have to use private browsing for some of my applications and can just use the regular window for the rest. Now I have missing bookmarks and it is a mess. Some are on one screen and some are on private browsing. As a note: I do not sign in with an account in the Firefox settings, nor should I have to. I do not like all the tracking and everything that happens when you have to sign in on a browser with an account. I should not have to do that for my bookmarks to work between the two windows. This is a real issue. I have Firefox 159.0 (64-bit).

Hi, how do you open regular and private Firefox windows?
(1) If you start in a regular window and do either of these, they should share the same profile data:
- Use menu button > New Private Windows or Ctrl+Shift+P
- Right-click a link or bookmark and Open in New Private Window
Do you notice different bookmarks using either of those methods?
(2) On the other hand, if you are using desktop or Taskbar shortcuts, it's possible that they are using different profiles - let's take a closer look.
If you compare the tops of the menus in the regular and private window, do they match? That area usually has this information:
- Mozilla account username
- Profile icon and name (for example, a star and Original)
If those are different, it would explain why the data doesn't match, but we'll still have to figure out how to solve it. Let us know what you see.
Yes that is the solution. I did have an extra profile and once I deleted it it worked. Thank you.
Great, thank you for reporting back.
