I had 2 windows open, closed one, lost all of my tabs. Restore didn't work. I tried to restore by renaming session-store-backups folder files. doesn't work. There is a file called upgrade.jsonlz4 from November, maybe that could be used to restore tabs somehow?

Chosen solution

There was no "-> Restore Previous Session".

And "-> Recently Closed Windows/Tabs" had only a few tabs. Most were missing.

BUT, that 'scrounger' link worked easily. Just found a historical 'jsonlz4' and dropped it in. Click “Scrouge URLs”, and all my Tab pages were found.

Thank you!

Did you check both "History -> Restore Previous Session" and "History -> Recently Closed Windows/Tabs" ?

The most recent upgrade file would be from updating to 120.0.1.

You can look at this tool to inspect a compressed jsonlz4 sessionstore file. This tool works locally, no uploading done.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox Title bar, especially if you have multiple windows or Private Browsing windows open to prevent losing tabs in unnoticed windows.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit
