Thunderbird freezes On my iMac
I have been using Thunderbird for years both on PC's, Mac's, and Ubuntu. On my iMac , when I click on Thunderbird it opens and immediately freezes. I can do nothing. No response from menus or anything. Open activity monitor and it states CPU usage any where from 99 to 105% . I can ONLY force quit. Hold down the option key when starting, check any of the choices like "disable all addons" and/ or "reset toolbars and controls" "continue in Safe mode" or "make changes and restart" Nothing works. I have tried them all one at a time and all at once. Some times if I have left the safe mode window up for a while, and I do not check boxes and only click "continue in safe mode", nothing happens. I have to go to "activity monitor to force quit. I went to the apps folder and sent to trash. Then emptied Trash and restarted. downloaded, Reinstalled and every thing remained the same. It still does exactly the same thing. I was surprised all the accounts remained visible. Starts and displays accounts , but immediately hangs. Does any one have a fix?

Hello there rohlwithit. We have read your message. We try to help you.
Try to check add- ons if they are up to date delete them if it s possible?
Some times there is a nofix for these errors.
see if you reinstall multiple topics change disabled reinstall if these symptoms disappear?

Addendum. I was able to start by going to terminal and starting safe mode there using
/Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin -safe-mode
instead of the option key. I immediately went to account settings and stopped all messages from auto downloads. If froze while i was doing this, but after force quit it seems it works, maybe. I have started a couple of times and gone to preferences and unchecked numerous items. It may or may not be working. I still had to go back to safe mode once, but who knows. May be it is working. I have it set to delete all cookies when closed.
