Hello,

I have been getting this message "authentication failure while connecting to server imap.googlemail.com" Any suggestion as to how to remove this message.

I got the message on two different computers starting June 1st or 2nd, on one computer it disappeared on its own. On the other it is still there.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely, R

Can't think of anything else, unless you have a security program scanning SSL connections or are trying to connect through a VPN.

Are you using OAuth2 authentication for the incoming and outgoing servers?

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_Gmail_with_Thunderbird_and_Mozilla_Suite

not using oauth2 authentication. SHould I do that?

Thank you for taking the time to help solve my issue

There's no guarantee using OAuth will fix the issue, but it is the recommended type for gmail, and it is less affected by other changes you may have made, such as turning on 2-step verification.

Oauth tried but did not fix my issue:( Any other suggestions?

First, eliminate the obvious: check that the password you're using in TB works when you log into the account on the gmail website. The TB passwords are under Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved passwords.

PW on TB and gmail website verified and all good. Any other suggestion?

Thank you.

Neither SSL or VPN.

We are out of ammos :(

Thank you for your trying to help us.

Would uninstall and reinstall TB work?

It wouldn't hurt, as it doesn't affect the profile folder, but it seldom fixes most problems. If you're using OAuth authentication and entering the correct password, and it still doesn't work, the problem probably lies with some gmail setting or 3rd-party security program interference, which you can test by running in Windows safe mode.

Unfortunately it did not help.

I ran windows safe mode and after starting in safe mode and opened TB, the message came up again.

who can I turn to solve this issue? I appreciate your assistance. Thank you

I have the same problem, am running Nordvpn and LastPass password checker. Any suggestions?
