I have been using Thunderbird for about 3 years with no problems. During that time Thunderbird has always opened to my Home page (i.e. the page which shows my four BT email accounts and which provides easy access to the respective in-boxes, sent-boxes, and deleted files etc.).

A few days ago, for no apparent reason, the Home page disappeared. Now, although the Home page does appear for a split second when I open Thunderbird, it is replaced immmediately by the sent box of my main email account. I am then stuck in that sent box and I have not yet found a convenient way of navigating away from it. I have tried opening Thunderbird in safe mode but the same thing happens in that mode. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

I should appreciate any help or suggestions in solving this problem, preferably couched in layman terms as i am something of a novice when it comes to computers.

Chosen solution

Do you have a menu bar with file, edit, view, ect? If not press the alt key to make it appear. From the menu bar press View-Layout and turn the Folder Pane back on.

Thank you very much for your reply. It worked fine! I spent a long time struggling with this, getting close but not quite there. I am most grateful for your help.

Sometimes the folder pane gets pushed off the screen to the left and even though the option to display it is checked it is not visible. In this case move your mouse cursor to the left side of the screen and watch for it to change to a double headed arrow. When it does, left click, hold and drag to the right to pull the folder pane out of hiding.

Many thanks for this advice as well.
