I'm very keen to use an Ubikey, but I understand the program for Firefox is in beta. I'd like to protect my gmail on the Firefox browser, but at present I'd have to switch to Chrome, which hogs too much memory. When will it be ready?

On the subject of security, will I continue to be able to use LASTPass?

To answer the last part of your question, though the current release version of LastPass is not compatible with Firefox 57+, they have been working on a new version and a beta version is now available. For details see https://blog.lastpass.com/2017/10/lastpass-beta-firefox-57.html/
