Thunderbird has downloaded all my messages a second time and hangs when I start deleting the duplicates.

Overnight, my email messages have all been downloaded a second time. As I start deleting the duplicates, Thunderbird hangs and I have to restart the programme.

is this an IMAP or a POP account. I am guessing POP. but need to be sure.
