What could cause videos to be displayed with the wrong size and tabs being slow and glitchy?

I'm not particularly bright when it comes to computer, but I have a rather peculiar problem... Actually, there are two of them.

My Firefox version is 37.0.2, and the only plugins I have is AdblockPlus 2.6.9.

The problem started with the tabs geting increasingly "glitchy". It got slower to swich from one tab to another, and the tabs themselves would get "blocky" and sometimes elements from the website on one tab would still remain a couple of seconds when clicking on a new one. I think someone on the internet described these tabs as "ghost tabs".

I tried to google the problem, and someone somewhere with a similar problem tried to disable the OMTC, which apparently worked. I tried that as well, and it worked great! But soon after, Youtube videos started acting funny... When playing in 480 quality, the video would look fine. But when using a lower quality, the video image would shrink in size and place itself in the upper left corner of the Youtube player. When using a higher quality, the video would grow in size instead.

I tried to reset Firefox, and it fixed all the problems. For about two weeks... Two days ago, the tabs started glitching again, and when I tried to disable to OMTC, the videos started their routine as well.

Does anyone here recognize this problem or know what causes it? How do you I fix it?

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
