Hi Lovely Firefox Developers, Help articles say that "The translation feature ... has been available for all users since Firefox version 118.", but I can't see it and I'm on v147. I don't want to install the add-on as the articles say it's obsolete, but I can't see any other way to get it. Am I missing something? Tim

Hello

Please check.

1 - Go to Configuration Editor for Firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox 2 - Enter a search term browser.translations.enable and set the value to true Restart Firefox.

To see it in operation, you can also type about:translations in the address bar.

Thanks for the reply. I tried it and the results were a bit strange: The search box in the config editor wouldn't accept input, either typing or pasting. I checked and unchecked "Show only modified preferences" and a complete list was displayed. I scrolled down to "browser.translations.enable" and it was already set to True. I typed "about:translations" in the address bar and got the msg:

Translation isn’t available on this device. Try switching to a different device. Learn more.

I tried clicking the "learn more" button but nothing happened. (I have recently restarted my machine).

Hi

There is no need to alter about:config for this, I recommend that you reset that preference.

Am I right in thinking that this is a version of Firefox that was pre-installed with Ubuntu?

Hello

The reason?

According to https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/toolkit/components/translations/resources/01_overview.html#supported-platforms

Translations is available only on devices support SSE4.1

Type about:telemetry#environment-data-tab in the address bar. Take a look at, cpu.extensions

Yes, pre-installed with Ubuntu. Does that make a lot of difference?

I only have SSE3, so I guess that's until I upgrade my PC.

Thanks all for your help, as always, Tim
