Can't connect to Yahoo IMAP & SMTP servers (TB 78.4.0 & TB 68.12.1)

Since today I can't access my Yahoo IMAP and SMTP servers, neither with TB 78.4.0 nor TB 68.12.1. The access to Yahoo's POP3 servers is possible as I have still one Yahoo e-mail account which uses POP3 server.

Yahoo had announced that they will restrict the access to their e-mail servers for "outdated Apps", but to Thunderbird this restriction should not apply.

Things I've done so far:

  • allowed cookies in "Privacy & Security" (was already set)
  • deleted all old passwords
  • tried to change authentication method to OAuth2 both on IMAP and SMTP servers, worked for the IMAP servers only

The following errors occur:

  • TB just says "Couldn't connect to server imap.mail.yahoo.com", and that's it. No "Enter password for server XYZ" dialog is shown
  • I can't change the authentication method for SMTP servers to "OAuth2", the option is not shown in the drop down list
  • since one of my Yahoo e-mail accounts (which is accessable via POP3) is working with TB, I've tried to access my other Yahoo accounts via POP3 servers instead of IMAP servers, but failed

I would be grateful for any help and ideas.

I have been using Thunderbird for several years but in the last 2 days I am not able to access my messages. When I check webmail they are in the inbox. When I check with Outlook they are brought into the Outlook inbox as they should be.

I am using the same configurations I have always used, I checked, and Thunderbird says it is connected to the server but it does nothing until the connection times out.

One other thing. This very important because these accounts are for a small municipality and we are not able to get any mail.

My system date e numbers are set to portuguese, but not my OS. Thunderbird is not the first software to confuse these settings.

It kind of pisses me off because finding documentation in English is way more easier. Also I work on a English speaking environment. Really difficult to communicate with inconsistent UI language.

now after yet another update, that rendered tb unable to open, i recovered using a system backup, trouble is that the line spacing is now back to being too big. how can this be fixed?

can i install an old version of tb [and never update it]....will that work?

I once migrated my frofile folder to another location but that should not have mattered. I am in urgent need of the old emails I can no longer read.

I have configured my mail account in Windows > settings > email & accounts so I'm able to receive new mail notifications in the Windows 10 notification area (bottom right in the system tray) without having an email client open. I have set my default mail application in Windows > settings > default apps > email > to Thunderbird.

Whenever I get a new mail notification in the Windows 10 notification area (bottom right in the system tray) and I click on the notification, it opens Windows Mail instead of Thunderbird which is the default mail application. How can I make Windows open Thunderbird instead of Windows Mail when I click on the notification?

I'm finding that at startup, none of my calendar events and tasks are displayed. I have to go to each calendar, then hide and unhide it, to display them. This seems to be an issue since one of the minor updates after 78.

I haven't found a setting to keep them displayed, so I'm guessing Thunderbird is losing its 'staus at last use' setting.

Anyone else seen this?

W10, 64bit Thunderbird 78.3.3

The only error message I get is "Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors."

"Automatically mark messages as read" has suddenly stopped working after the update to TB 68.11.0 (64-bit). When i start TB in safe mode, it works fine. In normal mode, even if i manually disable all addons and restart, it just does not work anymore.

When i click on a bold message, it stays bold. I have to click on the green dot in the "read" column for it to be marked as "read".

I tried disabling and re-enabling all relevant settings in the "Options\Display" panel, without any luck.

Hi, so I'm trying to import a public PGP key someone sent me via e-mail. It's in .asc format. In theory Thunderbird should recognise it in the e-mail and import it automatically. This is not happening. Opening the PGP Key Manager doesn't help either as the option to import keys is missing. See screenshots attached. Is this a bug? Anyone else have the same problem? Any ideas on how to solve it? Thanks! Maak

My institution uses Office 365 (Exchange) (O365) for email. It will soon be implementing Duo 2-factor authentication (2FA). I am using TB with the Exquilla add-on, which works perfectly on the current system. I use TB only for email (not calendar, etc.).

I would like to know exactly how to implement 2FA in my current O365 TB account, and how it will work afterwards. Also, perhaps what the most common glitches are for this change and how to address them.

At the risk of being ridiculed.... I am using TB 60.9.1. I presume that it will not trigger the Duo 2FA screen (or will it?). I am happy to upgrade TB to at least v68 to get the OAuth2 option in Account Settings, but after doing so, how exactly will it work? Will I need to do the 2FA thing every time TB runs, every time my browser opens, etc? Are there any particular issues with O365 using TB 2FA?

I am trying to avoid even a temporary interruption in email access via TB since the O365 web Outlook interface is so intolerable....

I have around 6000 messages in the Sent Folder. Suddenly only the latest 10-15 messages are visible. For the rest, when I click on a specific Sent message say of 2 months ago, only the last visible Sent message (ie within the last 10-15 days) is showing.

The subject content of past Sent messages is not showing. I made a subfolder "Sent Old" and copied all my Sent messages to here. I then tried to repair the Sent Folder. Now the Sent Folder is showing only the last 10-15 messages, which are visible, but nothing of the last 6000 messages.

What do I do to retrieve all my Sent messages?
