This is maddening. A couple of days ago TB started to freeze. I have not added any new add-ons. I don't even have any add-ons. I tried one suggestion of repairing and compacting folders and that did not help. I also tried the accessibility.force_disabled change from 0 to 1. It is still happening. I have to use Task Manager to shut it down because if I right-click and close it tells me that TB is already running but not responding when I try to restart it. It takes 4-5 tries to get it to the point where I can have a few minutes to do anything in the program. If I leave and come back, the mail window is frozen. Help, please! I have been using TB for years and never had this problem!

Here we go again! After spending a couple of weeks trouble shooting this issue, I thought I had it fixed earlier today.

After using TB for a couple of hours, getting rid of duplicate messages, etc., I shut it down. But when I decided to check emails one more time, the ORIGINAL problem is back, it will NOT delete messages.

I deleted all earlier installs, and did a complete clean install of 140.5.0esr.

I have several e-mail accounts on my own domain, via GoDaddy. They suddenly switched their e-mail server to Exchange, which forced me to switch from Thunderbird to Outlook. Can I switch back, yet, or can Tbird only handle one Exchange account?

I am temporarily using Win 10 (with security updates) but will regain access soon to a PC that can run Win 11.

Not receiving GMAIL account messages.

Cannot send GMAIL account messages

Recently started receiving this error message.

"Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: Try again later, closing connection.. " -- This is the full message on screen.

Have tried all the standard "fixes" suggested on Mozilla-related help sites.

Even tried AI solutions. None work.

This happened about a week ago, as well.

Then, a couple of days after, Thunderbird came good and was working as it should.

Come this Monday, it's stopped working again, as per last week!

Is this a GOOGLE issue?

Nothing is working to solve the problem.

Now stuck with no email function on Thunderbird (Desktop PC Win 11)

NOTE: occurs on my Apple IOS, using MS Outlook, as well?!?

I was having massive issues with TB when it auto updated from 142 to 143. Then last week, just when I thought I had everything restored, the damn program auto updated to 144.

I still can not "delete" messages or send anything.

I downgraded to 140.3.1 at least with that version I could delete messages. But I still could not send anything. TB send would time out and a window would pop up asking me to "sign in with my ISP".

And like others that have posted, I too lost folders on the new updates.

This whole series, 14x is a bust IMO.

I've been wanting to access Thunderbird's encryption ability on both my laptop and desktop. However, in setting up Tbird on my laptop I notice the user Profile should stay on one computer. Can I use the same Profile on more than one computer using the same source and password? Can I open a new profile on a second computer, even though I would have to use the same email source, a local provider? If not, is there an online source of email data I can use on Tbird on my laptop. Thanks much, Bruce Bartrug

Spectrum had me change my password for one of my accounts on Thunderbird. I changed it with Spectrum. That account was working fine from Nov. 6 until today, Nov. 16; today, it decided that my password wouldn't work. I tried to change it when it asked at the time I was trying to send an email; it wouldn't take. I then went into "saved passwords" and tried to change it; it wanted a pin. This is my** first problem;** Norton has no idea what that is. Thunderbird asked for other sign-in methods including a Yahoo email, but I have no idea what it wants as it doesn't want the password for that Yahoo account. What is it looking for????

I deleted the account from Thunderbird's password manager. After my shutting down and reopening Thunderbird a few times, it finally worked --however, it didn't ask for a password and sent and received email just fine. Thunderbird now doesn't have that account listed in its password manager, but is giving me my mail and sending my mail out without asking me for a password. **This is my second problem.**

Since this is all combined, I'm sending both questions together; otherwise, I wouldn't do so. Does anyone know what's happening and how to get a password back as a necessity for that email account?

My email provider is terminating the existing email domain name, and replacing it with a new domain name. I want to retain all existing Thunderbird folders and emails for use with the new email. Example: username@q.com becomes username@myclk.com. (Yep, it's Centurylink.)

Can I change my existing Thunderbird account name and email and retain all existing folders and emails in the account? Some server settings would also be changed.

Or, do I need to set up a new account?

Thanks

I have noticed recently that some emails automatically downloaded images. When I checked the mail content exceptions in the settings I found that there were some email addresses in it that I am 99% certain I didn't manually add. I'm aware that if I click on one of the "allow remote content from..." options in the preferences dropdown in the email, that will add the address to the list of exceptions, but again I'm pretty sure I haven't done that for some of the exceptions that have appeared in the list. Is there a way that senders can somehow add themselves to the list of exceptions without my knowledge? If there is, how do I block it? Thanks, Ian

Hi,

since Thunderbird 145 installed, I can't update my Nextcloud calendars anymore. Neither new calendar entries are created, nor can I delete them, nor can I acknowledge a reminder. - The create dialog simply closes, no error message, but also no calendar entry. - The Delete button when editing a calendar entry just animates it's being pressed. Nothing else happens. - The reminders window does not close. Neither for a single reminder, nor dismissing all reminders does anything except animating the button press.

I (thought a long time about this and then) tried to unsubscribe from the calendars and tried to add them again. Not a good idea: Now TB only shows "Searching your calendars" indefinitely (for hours). This is regardless of whether I add a username for logon or tick the "no credentials needed" box - to me, that seems to indicate TB is not communication at all with Nextcloud.

This all worked fine before the TB 145 update :-(

Using Nextcloud Hub 10 (31.0.10).

Any hints?

Thunderbird frequently freezing, "Not responding" for about 10-20 seconds, then starts working again

Hello,

I'm using Thunderbird in Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie).

Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 140.4.0esr

apt package: thunderbird/stable-security,now 1:140.4.0esr-1~deb13u1 amd64 [installed]

The last few weeks I started getting the problem that Thunderbird freezes, it stops responding and Debian (with the default gnome UI) shows a popup window saying "Thunderbird is not responding", then I wait for about 10 or 20 seconds, and then Thunderbird becomes responsive again.

Apparently Thunderbird is doing something that takes a long time (perhaps going through messages to index them for quicker search or something like that, I don't know), something that should be done in a background thread so that the program can remain responsive, but for some reason that heavy work is done by the main UI thread causing Thunderbird to become unresponsive.

This problem has gotten worse over the past few weeks, so I really want to do something about it before Thunderbird becomes completely useless. (At the moment I can still use Thunderbird for like 10 minutes in between the freezing, so it's not yet critical.)

How can I find out what Thunderbird is doing while the "Thunderbird is not responding" is shown?

For example, is it possible to configure some logging or performance profiling that would output to a file some information about where the program spends its time?

Other ideas about how to troubleshoot this?

So I have a self hosted Exchange and I have no problems using it from apps like Google Mail, Outlook and such, plus I can login directly to its .../EWS/Exchange.asmx through a browser. However, when trying with Thunderbird 145/Linux, I always get that username or password are incorrect, but it doesn't tell me exactly what went wrong and how it tried, so I'm in the dark why it is happening. Note: exchange's url is on a different domain than my account.

Basically it's either this message: Authentication error.

Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIMsgAccountManager.createIncomingServer]

Or similar if I try to get message from inbox.

Also weird things happen during configuration, like attached image (note that I've tried different URL permutations)

TLDR; how do I diagnose the issue, or ever better, how to connect? TIA

I'm using the latest version (145) and I've setup my office 365 email account. I'm trying to setup my calendar account as well but when I enter location, username and password it says that my credentials were not accepted.

I assume this means that TB is using legacy un/pw authentication which is no longer supported instead of OATH2. There is, however, no option to select OATH2 in the calendar setup process (like there is for email).

Are office 365 calendars supported by TB 145?

I've tried starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode which didn't work. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Thunderbird but when it starts it goes straight back to the frozen "Account Settings" page. I've checked my profile and there is a new profile that was created with today's date. There is also a profile from June 2025. If the old profile contains all my emails and folders up to yesterday, that would be OK.
