MY FF recently updated to version 1380.1 (64bits) and my Sidebar Bookmarks are gone. That is I have to manually put them back every time I now start FF. I want them to always show when I start FF. When I need extra screen space, I would click the X and they'd disappear for that session. And when I was done, I'd click on View - Bookmarks they'd be reinstalled. And when I shut FF down and returned later, they'd be right there where I need them.

My question is, how do I get back to that setup?

Good new jscher2000 - it looks like that hack has worked!

My bookmarks auto appeared every time I used FF today.

Therefore, I'm going to say that my problem is solved.

And "Thank you" to everyone who offered suggestions.

OK, the gremlins are back. Now it is working with the settings you wanted me to try. I tried it several times, e.g., made the change, it worked. Undid the change and restored it (old file 4kb file) and the bookmarks were gone. Put the change back in, and the book marks were there.

Therefore, I have a question for you: since the two files are not the same size, why does it appear that my bookmarks are back. I can not tell, at this time if they are all "current" or not.

Turn off Show sidebar "using the little icon in the upper left corner" - NOT on the Settings page Close Firefox and rename xulstore.json Start Firefox, open Bookmarks Sidebar using the little icon in upper left corner - NOT Ctrl+B Close Firefox, cross fingers, open Firefox

I haven't read about this deeply, just reporting suggestions from the bug on file.

Changing the xulstore.json file only affects stored dimensions and open/closed status.

The toolbar button can be used to open/close the sidebar. The checkbox on the Settings page switches between the old design (unchecked) and the new design (checked). The new design has a persistent vertical button bar that doesn't close.

Well, tell you what, let's wait till tomorrow to see if it holds. Sound OK with you?

Hi there! So sorry to hear about the trouble. It sounds like you might be experiencing the same missing bookmarks sidebar issue as described here.

This issue will be resolved in the release of Firefox Version 139 -- this update will be available on May 27th. I hope this helps!

Mandy - Thanks for the update info. I'll make sure I make a back-up before that happens...just in case.

But right now, that fix that 'jscher2000' recommended is still holding. My taskbar opens on the left like I like it when I open FF. It's rare that I need extra window space, but when I do, I can click that little x in that window pane to close it, then click on the view for the drop down list and select bookmarks again when I'm done.

So, to recap, I did what jscher2000 suggested and changed file name 'xulstore.json' to 'xulstoreOLD.json' and rebooted. FF recreated that file, alibet with a smaller file size (1kb vs original 4kb).

I wish FF would fix their issue, which I have as well. It's become a real BORE to have to reopen my bookmarks several times a day.

Hi Richard, the fix will land next week with the release of Firefox 139. If you don't want to wait that long, you might want to try the workaround that Jefferson suggested above.

This thread is getting long, and the OP has indicated that their issue has been fixed, so I'm going to lock this thread. For others experiencing the same issue but haven't been able to fix the problem, please file a new question so we can follow up. Thanks, folks!
