There are 2 websites that I go to every month to pay bills, for the last 2 months they will not open in Firefox. I can get them to open in Microsoft Edge but don't want to use that browser. I have these 2 websites bookmarked and when I click on them I get the website with their logo but the page never finishes loading. This does not happen with any other bookmarked sites. I have tried doing a search for these websites and then following the results to get there but still does not work.

Hi, what happens when you manually enter the addresses ? Are you getting any error messages at all. What security software are you running please  ?

Since no information was provided at the time of making this question please : Try Firefox Safe Mode to TEST & see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hand typing the address has the same results. No error message just a small circle spinning round and round but I do see the websites home page logo only nothing else. Like it's trying to load but won't. My security software is mcAfee. I have tried safe mode and does not fix problem.

Please turn off the web advisor part of Mcafee to see if that makes a change. As I am pretty certain that it is Mcafee or turn it off for 5 mins while you check the 2 sites please.

OK Turned off Web Advisor and waited. Did not help, waited longer tried again still no luck. Don't know if this will help but the 2 sites I am trying to go to are 2 different credit cards sites but the same bank, so URL is the same for them both. One is Tractor Supply and the other Sears.

HI, no URLS do not help as I can get to it fine. Can you turn Mcafee off for 5 mins, reboot and it it will remain off still ? Then try and connect as possible it was still in memory or...

Just did a question that Mcafee was blocking a printer, so ya have my suspect insight. Just trying to prove it.

You did not mention the results of trying in Safe Mode.

No it did not work in safe mode. I turned computer off, waited 5 minuets, restarted computer, McAfee is still off and website still does not load.

That page loads for me, but it seems to be making some odd "websocket" connections. I wonder if that could be a factor in your inability to fully load the page.

Are any of your settings related to websockets customized? To check on that:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste webso and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Make note of any settings that do not have a status of default -- perhaps something modified or locked is related to this issue?

Did as you asked and all say Default

You could check for messages in Firefox's Web Console. You can open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+k

Then reload the page in the upper part of the tab and watch for error or security messages. (The lines with blue triangles generally are not significant unless you suspect a style rule problem.) Anything that sounds like it could be relevant?

OK Did as you asked and this is what I got. This is now beyond me and I don't know what I am looking at.

I have a lot of those lines, but not this one:

[Show/hide message details.] TypeError: USCRS.getIsWlSSOEligible is not a function[Learn More] fusionapp.min.js:3:5490

For some reason mine is either not trying to do that, or it is working. I don't know what file is needed for that to work on yours, the site's coding is hard to understand.

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are some additional suggestions to try when it stops working normally:

Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature and extensions that counter ads and tracking may break websites that weren't built to operate normally without the blocked components.

Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar, near the lock icon? More info on managing the Tracking Protection feature in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix should provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you may need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

Note: If you are using a private browsing window, this is not necessary because these are automatically cleared each time you close the last private window.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Thank You so much I turned off Tracking Protection, nothing happened, and Cleared Cookies and Site Data and it worked.
