everytime i start firefox it opens on firefox start page. i don't want this. i want my own home page. i have changed it several times in 'options-general-when firefox starts...' but alas to no avail..it still starts up with the firefox start page. i have also gone to 'about:config' and changed the value of 'browser.startup.homepage' to my homepage. i restarted firefox and it worked...but just the once. the next time i opened firefox it started up once again with the firefox homepage. i have done scans, i have tried to remove the hometab with various anti virus/anti malware programms.. i have sieved through my registry..it doesn't matter what i do.. firefox starts up with it's own homepage which i do not want. please can you help?.. it's driving me nuts. i don't really want to have to reinstall firefox. thanks in advance x ps. firefox also keeps crashing on me  :(

From your system details I can see an addon called HomeTab.

That addon is not avaible on addons.mozilla.org or I can't find it myself.

Can you remove that addon and try again?

Note that your System Details List shows a user agent override pref that is active:

general.useragent.override: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:24.0; WUID=948874ab6044e56b41e2d0a02f341f00; WTB=6787) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0

You may need to keep an eye on this afeter Firefox updates to the next version.

Also note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there. you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

in the user.js file it says search.us.com .. i googled it and apparently it's a browser hijacker and should be removed.

More information about user.js can be found here

What other entries the file user.js contains?

i have now removed the user.js file and i modified the keyword.URL. firefox now starts up how i want it to. just one more question.. should i do anything with the 'user.js.BAK' file? or can i just leave that? thanks x

i did a computer restart and everything seems to be working just fine now and the 'search.us.com' seems to be completely gone.

a BIG thank you for all your support.

I am not sure but user.js.BAK must be backup file for user.js.

I also would recommend to reset general.useragent.override from about:config

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information. Click the "Reset Firefox" button. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied. Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.
