Password
I am using the correct password but it keeps saying " Login to server imap.comcast.net with username [redacted]@comcast.net failed.". I hope someone can help. Thanks.

You should first verify your server settings. Here are my working Comcast settings:
IMAP (Incoming): Incoming Server Type: IMAP Mail Server Incoming Server Name: imap.comcast.net Port: 993 User Name: <my email address> Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal Password OR OAuth2
SMTP (Outgoing): SMTP Server Name: smtp.comcast.net Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal Password OR OAuth2 User Name: <my email address>
I use IMAP but if your incoming server is POP3, you would use this:
POP3 (Incoming): Incoming Server Type: POP Mail Server Incoming Server Name: pop3.comcast.net Port: 995 User Name: <email address> Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal Password (or OAuth2?)
These are the same as what Comcast recommends (see https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email) except they don't mention using OAuth2 as the Authentication Method. OAuth2 is better, but the older, less-secure Normal Password method may still work.
To make OAuth2 work properly in Thunderbird you must make sure that cookies are allowed (see <Settings | Privacy & Security | Web Content | Accept Cookies from Sites>.) You should also delete any existing Comcast entries in Saved Passwords (see <Settings | Privacy & Security | Passwords | Saved Passwords>.) Then, restart Thunderbird. You will be prompted for your credentials and you should be authenticated.
I haven't changed any of the settings but was using a different computer to access Thunderbird for a couple of weeks ( a home computer) but I didn't change anything there either. Thanks.
Can someone please help? Still can't send or receive without entering a password.
Did you try my suggestions?
Yes. That's why I said none of my settings have changed. The settings are correct. Hope you can further. Is there an option to reset the password? Thanks!
- What is your operating system?
- Are you using Oauth2 or Normal Password as the Authentication Method?
- What anti-virus, network security, or VPN software do you use, if any?
You say 'you changed none of the settings' and 'none of your settings have changed' and that, which leaves me unclear whether you actually followed my suggestion to confirm the use of cookies and to remove any existing OAuth entries. Please confirm.
I'm sorry that I didn't see this part: To make OAuth2 work properly in Thunderbird you must make sure that cookies are allowed (see <Settings | Privacy & Security | Web Content | Accept Cookies from Sites>.) You should also delete any existing Comcast entries in Saved Passwords (see <Settings | Privacy & Security | Passwords | Saved Passwords>.) Then, restart Thunderbird. You will be prompted for your credentials and you should be authenticated. So it is sort of working but I'm only getting new e-mails in the other 2 accounts (Gmail and Yahoo) but not the comcast address. How do I fix that? Thanks so much for your help!
OK, never mind. The password is STILL not working! 😟
So, you still haven't said the words, "yes, I did this". Did you?
In addition to the above instructions, please delete any existing cookies for Comcast. See <Settings | Privacy & Security | Web Content | Show cookies>. Then restart Thunderbird and you should be prompted to put in your credentials.
You haven't mentioned Yahoo and Gmail before this, but I don't think they're relevant.
YEs I did EVERYTHING you suggested. Still can't get in with the correct password which has always worked before.
